First, I don’t have twins so my review is from a little bit different perspective. I’ve read Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child cover to cover and have worked directly with Dr. Weissbluth concerning my son’s terrible (now awesome) sleeping. My only challenge with his previous book was the length. I appreciate the full explanation but it was really hard to digest when I was so sleep deprived. Lots of reviews indicated as much so I was hoping that this new book would be clearer. I am so happy to report that it is so clear and concise, perfect for parents that have lost all brain function from lack of sleep. It’s very much step by step and to the point.

Dr. Weissbluth strongly stressed during our meetings the need to start early with sleep training. With my son we started at 4 months so I wasn’t sure how I would go about starting from day one but fortunately this book tells you how to do just that. I really want to do a better job with our next child and I know from experience how much you question yourself while you are training. I really appreciate that this book lays everything out in a very clear fashion to help me stay focused next time.

You can just ignore the twin specific items if you are looking for help with a single child. If you are looking for more details or still unsure about the need for sleep training then you should read Happy Child too. I can’t say if the twin specific suggestions are good or bad but it all made sense to me in the context of the sleep training we had gone through and watching my brother with his fraternal twin boys.

  2. Dr. Weisbluth should be ashamed of himself! This 2009 book copies Giordano’s 2006 book from the cover (compare “a step by step program for sleep training” to “a step by step plan for baby sleep success”) to the content. If you compare the books you will be floored by the similarities. Although I think Giordano’s (a twin mom herself!!!!!) is still more straight forward and easy to read.

I purchased this as a gift—nothing like unsolicited advice :) and it dramatically changed the lives of a whole family for the better. Don’t let the negative comments fool you. Dr. Weissbluth is the real thing!

I found this book interesting, however, it doesn’t really mention much about feeding, and in my opinion, feeding and sleeping are very intertwined. If your baby is still getting up to eat in the middle of the night, sleep training is very difficult. Without touching on this, this book is not that useful.

The book does a good job going over what sleep patterns can be expected at what ages. This book was essential in helping us get our twins to sleep through the night for 12 hours and nap twice a day for 3 hrs each at just 5 months old. It’s too bad this version wasn’t written more concisely than it’s non-twin version. Way to wordy.
